Riaz Hassan, Mr

Riaz Hassan was appointed as the Head of the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan (ArWAP) in May 2022. He leads the implementation of the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan, which was co-produced with our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people to tackle structural, institutional, and systemic racism. Prior to this role, he served as the Regional Community Cohesion Coordinator for Western Bay (Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, and Bridgend) since September 2012.
Mr. Hassan previous positions include Principal Officer at Swansea Council, a Programme Manager at Cardiff Council, positions he held between April 2004 – September 2012.

Over his 27-year career, Mr. Hassan has held various research, development, management planning, and operational positions in organisations within the UK and internationally. His areas of interest include social justice, social development planning and management, partnership working, and co-production across public services. He is dedicated to delivering co-designed services through service improvement and lived experience.
Mr. Hassan holds an MSc (Econ.) in Social Development Planning and Management and a second master’s degree in social Anthropology.
