Philip is an Associate Professor in Curriculum Inquiry & Rural Education and research leader for the Rural Education and Communities research group. His major ongoing research focuses on the role of knowledge in curriculum, rural knowledges and the sustainability of rural communities. He currently holds an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) 2020-2022.
