Person
I am Mariam Siddiqa. I can describe myself as a passionate, adventurous, and hardworking person. I am a current student of Doctorate in Education (EdD) at Staffordshire University. I intend to submit my thesis by June 2022. My research field is compulsory Maths Education in the UK.
I am professionally qualified for teaching Maths. I have been working full-time as a Main Grade Maths Lecturer at a local Further Education college for the last nine years. I teach students aged 16 to 19 years. These students mostly failed their GCSE Maths at school leaving age. According to the current educational policy, these students must resit their Maths with the vocational course at FE college until they reach age 19. In my experience, teaching these learners is challenging because of their demotivation and negative attitudes towards learning Maths as a compulsory subject with their vocational course. I was always curious to investigate the background reasons behind these students’ Maths apprehensions and resulting attitudes since I started working these students. Therefore, I planned my research investigation on resit Maths students’ apprehensions and engagement levels. My research findings will highlight key areas that trigger Maths apprehensions and engagement issues in Maths students and possible driving forces that can help them learn and achieve Maths.
