Dr Khawla Badwan is Reader in TESOL and Applied Linguistics at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her interdisciplinary research expertise includes language education, intercultural communication, literacy debates, decoloniality, language and sustainability, language and social justice, and sociolinguistics of globalisation. Her publications include Language in a Globalised World: Social Justice Perspectives on Mobility and Contact (Palgrave, 2021). She is co-editor of Global Migration and Diversity of Educational Experiences in the Global South and North (Routledge, 2023) and Critical Perspectives on Teaching in the Multilingual University (Routledge, 2024). She is currently writing a book on Language in Times of Unspeakability (Cambridge University Press). Khawla is a member of the British Council English Language Advisory Board and is the Chair for the Linguistics Subject Benchmark Statement review advisory panel (2022-2023) appointed by the Quality Assurance Agency.
