As a Senior Lecturer in English education and Co-Director of Teaching and Learning in ESW at Sussex, I teach and supervise on a range of courses, including the MA in Education, PGCE English and PhDs. Research interests include reading, dialogic talk, teacher development, participatory research and social justice. Currently investigating the national impact on practice of our ‘Faster Read’ research, now in its eighth year. This aims to position all students as ‘readers’, developing their reading comprehension, interpretation and engagement, by an immersive reading of whole, engaging, culturally diverse texts, using dialogic peer and class talk, and reading strategies.
