Jack is a Project Coordinator for the Salford Foundation’s ‘Steps’ program, which focuses on preventing gender-based violence (GBV). Prior to this he helped coordinate the ‘Boys to Men’ project, which explored boys’ perceptions of gender in Salford and Bolton. This informed the development of ‘Steps', a GBV prevention program aimed at boys aged 9-13, which helps participants reflect on attitudes and behaviors that enable and excuse to GBV.
Alongside his colleague, Carolina Hinojosa, using gender theory, relational learning, and insights from ‘Boys to Men,’ he created a 5-week curriculum that encourages boys to engage in positive discussions and be part of a cultural shift toward reducing GBV while also supporting their nonmale peers. Jack delivers this program in schools across Greater Manchester and has reached over 650 boys. He works with 29 schools to help successfully implement the Steps curriculum and create whole school approaches to GBV and related behaviours.
