Hauwa Imam, Professor

Hauwa Imam has over 40 years of diverse experience as a secondary school teacher, educational administrator, and university academic. A professor at the University of Abuja since 2011, she has produced many master’s and Ph.D. graduates in her field and is published in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of a group of scholars engaged in multicultural studies that show how the university's support for secondary school leaders and teachers can promote effective leadership and emphasise skills development through action research. She has held key leadership roles in the university, including Dean of the Faculty of Education and pioneering Director of the Institute of Education, amongst others. She introduced Blended Learning at the university and, in 2023, secured a Commonwealth of Learning grant to design MOOCs, reaching participants from 53 countries in 2024. Following this success, she obtained another grant to develop an online International Postgraduate Diploma in Education for Africa and the Commonwealth, enhancing the university's reputation in online learning. Professor Imam's professional affiliations are extensive; she was the National President of the Nigerian Association for Educational Administration and Planning (2018–2022) and Vice President of the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management (CCEAM )(2022–2024). She became President of the CCEAM on August 26, 2024. She has received numerous awards and fellowships for her dedication to furthering the theory and practice of educational administration. Her leadership, integrity, and commitment inspire her peers and students.
