Farah Shahrin, Dr

Senior Lecturer at Nottingham Trent University

Dr. Farah Shahrin (she/her) is a construction professional and sustainability researcher with a focus on achieving an equitable Net Zero transition. Her work examines the intersection of energy inequality, gender disparities in construction, and inclusive climate policies. Drawing from her background in built environment projects, Dr. Shahrin advocates for transparent governance and participatory decision-making in the UK’s Net Zero strategies, addressing policy gaps and ensuring diverse stakeholder engagement.
A passionate advocate for mental health and well-being in academia, Dr. Shahrin’s research and professional initiatives explore the challenges faced by early career researchers (ECRs), particularly those navigating non-traditional academic pathways. As one of the working group lead in the Athena SWAN initiative, she promotes gender equity and better support for women in academia, especially in their career transitions and work-life balance. Recently, she organised an event aimed at redefining the meaning of scholarship across interdisciplinary academic communities, emphasising growth and mental resilience in the face of institutional pressures.
Committed to bridging technical advancements with social justice, Dr. Shahrin works to foster a more inclusive, sustainable, and supportive academic environment for all researchers, ensuring that diverse contributions—whether research, practice, or impact—are valued equally.
