BERA Doctoral Thesis Award Winner
I am a Postdoctoral Scholar at McGill University, Canada and an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education & Society, where completed my PhD at in 2023. Within the context of national and international teacher shortages, my doctoral work studied whether and why young people do, or do not, want to become teachers when they older, especially in the sciences, where shortages are worst. My thesis used mixed methods, including secondary analysis of a national longitudinal dataset of young people's career aspirations (the ASPIRES project).
Before beginning my PhD I worked on the ASPIRES research project for four years as a Research Officer; first at King's College London before moving to the IOE. Before that I was a secondary school teacher in the north of England where I mainly taught French.
