Emily Dobrich is a PhD Candidate in the Adult Education and Community Development program of the Department of Leadership, Higher And Adult Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education located at the University of Toronto. In conjunction with her PhD, she is enrolled in collaborative specializations in Comparative, International and Development Education, Women and Gender Studies and Diaspora and Transnational Studies. Her doctoral research project explores how embodied learning approaches can be implemented to reimagine and enhance diasporic learning experiences by promoting self-determination, situated solidarity building, and a relational understanding and connection to place. A key contribution of this research is to support the creation and implementation of more diverse, engaged and culturally respectful community-oriented learning opportunities for migrant women.
Emily’s current research and teaching interests include adult education and lifelong learning; embodied learning theories and practices; decolonizing research methodologies; sustainability; diaspora and transnational studies; and gender studies. She is actively involved in various scholarly associations in Canada and internationally including her position as the Representative for the Ontario Region on the board of the Canadian Association for the Study of Adult Education (CASAE).
