Bethan Rowlands, Mrs

Lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University

Bethan Rowlands is a Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS, PGCE Primary and PGCE Secondary in Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy, Cardiff Metropolitan University. Previously, she worked as a Lecturer at University of South Wales on the BA (Hons) Primary Studies with QTS course, delivering the degree through the medium of Welsh and English. Following a twenty-year career as a Welsh primary school teacher, she followed her dream to join Higher Education and began her journey of researching Dyscalculia. A subject close to her heart, due to her daughter having the learning condition but who has never been formally diagnosed. Bethan wanted to understand how she could support all learners with Dyscalculia and wanted to raise awareness with the student teachers studying at the University to impact upon their future practice. Bethan completed a PGCE in Higher Education, is a member of HEA Fellowship and finished her MA Education Innovation Learning and Teaching exploring teachers’ perceptions of effective strategies in teaching Mathematics. BERA 2019 was Bethan’s first conference and was delighted to have won first prize on her poster presentation which raises awareness of Dyscalculia.
