Dr Barbara Templ is the Computational Competencies Community Manager in the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. In this role, she coordinates activities to enhance the data science curriculum and analyses student flow within the institution. Previously, she served as an Educational Specialist for Data Science at the Zürich-Basel Plant Science Center, where she expanded the PhD programme in Plant Sciences by organising courses focused on digital skills, artificial intelligence, big data and machine learning. She is passionate about advancing open research data management (ORD), she has interdisciplinary background in ecology, phenology, statistics and machine learning to tackle the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence in higher education and environmental science.
