Risk Assessment & Audit Committee: Call for New Members

We are actively seeking new members to apply to join BERA’s Risk Assessment and Audit Committee (RAAC).

The role of RAAC is to maintain and update the risk register, ensuring it provides independent and objective oversight and advice to BERA Council on the effective functioning of the Association in relation to:

  • Risk management
  • Financial processes
  • BERA Chief Executive
  • Legal Requirements
  • Whistleblowing

The committee is not onerous, meeting twice a year, in Autumn and Spring. Ordinarily, the Autumn meeting is held in person in central London with full expenses paid, and the Spring meeting is held virtually. Members of the committee are expected to contribute to all discussions and attend both meetings. Candidates must be full paid-up members of BERA and remain so throughout the duration of their tenure.

We would be particularly interested in candidates with management, financial, and/ or risk experience. It is not necessary for the candidate to have experience in all of these areas. BERA’s committee members have an active and invaluable role in the governance of the association, ensuring we are able to meet our strategic objectives and planned activities. The members of RAAC are not ordinarily members of Council and this opportunity offers a great gateway into BERA’s governance structure.

Apply Now

The closing date for submissions of interest is 22nd August which takes the form of a 250-word statement, and the outcome will be communicated by 22nd September. The successful applicant/s will be invited to the Autumn 2022 meeting held October/November 2022.

If you would like further information or to informally discuss this role, please contact secretariat@bera.ac.uk

BERA is committed to provide opportunities for early-career researchers on all our decision-making bodies, so enthusiasm and commitment can be considered in lieu of extensive previous experience. We would particularly welcome applications from all under-represented groups and backgrounds, and we would encourage those who would bring fresh perspectives to the committee.
