The Curriculum Journal: Call for Associate Editors
The Curriculum Journal (CJ), published by the British Educational Research Association (BERA), specialises in publishing original contributions to the study of curriculum theory and curriculum-making practices and is currently recruiting for Associate Editors. This is an excellent opportunity for academics with a strong background in educational research who are committed to contributing to the journal’s ongoing development and success.
As part of our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), we are looking to expand the geographical diversity of our editorial team. We welcome applications from educational researchers based in areas that are currently under-represented on our editorial team, especially those from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
About the role
As Associate Editor, you will work closely with the Editors to manage the peer review process, which involves identifying and inviting peer reviewers, overseeing the review of manuscripts, and making editorial recommendations. You will help to ensure that all manuscripts are reviewed rigorously, ethically and within agreed timelines, contributing to the high standards of the journal.
This role provides the opportunity to expand your academic network, influence the field of educational research and be recognised as a key figure in the academic community.
Key skills and attributes
We are seeking candidates with the following experience and qualities:
- A strong educational research background, particularly in the following areas: Curriculum theory, curriculum-making practices and issues relating to governance and policy development, teacher professional learning, assessment and pedagogy, insofar as they pertain to curriculum.
- Methodological expertise in quantitative methods, mixed methods and/or evidence synthesis methodologies.
- Demonstrated professionalism in communication, with strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with authors, reviewers and the editorial team.
- Ability to commit the necessary time each week to fulfil the role, attend editorial meetings and ensure timely processing of manuscripts.
- Comfortable with, and have experience of, using online peer review systems.
- A strong understanding of the COPE guidelines and a dedication to maintaining high ethical standards throughout the publication process.
- Passionate about the development of the journal and actively involved in expanding academic networks, including through conference attendance and social media.
