Conference and Events Manager – Maternity Cover

British Educational Research Association (BERA) currently has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join us as our Conference and Events Manager based in London. You will join us on a full time, fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave until 31st March 2022, and in return you will receive a competitive salary of £30,000 per annum (including London weighting) plus benefits.

About the role

As our Conference and Events Manager, you will work alongside our Events Officer to provide professional support to ensure the effective management of our major annual Conference in 2021 and plan ahead for 2022. You will also support the delivery of our other events throughout the year, including those of BERA’s Specialist Interest Groups, initiatives, partners and external stakeholders.

BERA is the largest UK-wide educational research organisation. Led by over around 2500 members, we are an organisation dedicated to supporting educational researchers and promoting high-quality research in education. We seek to enhance the field of study, the growth of public knowledge and critical understanding, and the application of findings for the improvement of educational practice and policy.

Key responsibilities of our Conference and Events Manager:

  • Managing BERA’s flagship annual conference. In 2021, this will be a virtual event, the first of its kind, but we plan to return to a physical event in 2022, planning for which will be a key focus of this role.
  • Organising BERA conferences, seminars, webinars and other events
  • Developing a marketing strategy for BERA events, in conjunction with the Membership and Engagement Manager
  • Building relationships with potential sponsors and exhibitors to maximise opportunities available at BERA events
  • Communicating and negotiating with staff and external contractors
  • Networking with other associations within the UK and abroad to maximise engagement
  • Providing support to BERA Special Interest Groups and coordinating their activities

What we’re looking for in our Conference and Events Manager:

  • Proven experience of organising and managing large-scale conferences and events
  • Highly numerate with experience of financial administration, including the ability to create budgets
  • Excellent record-keeping skills with a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail
  • Proven project management and administrative skills
  • Experience of direct delegate, supplier and customer interaction
  • Excellent IT skills and computer literacy, and familiarity with the Microsoft suite
  • Experience of digital events and networking opportunities
