BJET Call for Special Section proposals

The BJET call for Special Section proposals, for publication in the latter half of 2026, is now open for submissions with a deadline of 31 March 2025.

Please submit proposals using the online form.

BJET is committed to publishing a diverse range of theoretical perspectives, methodological developments and high-quality empirical research that demonstrate whether and how applications of educational technology systems, networks, tools and resources lead to improvements in formal and informal education, professional development and corporate training. Special Sections play a particularly important role in achieving this.

For publication in BJET, Special Sections should be a collection of articles and reflections on specific topics and take an analytical and critical (not purely descriptive) stance, bringing novel and innovative ideas or research findings.  The topic should be timely and focused, but not overly narrow. Calls are open to researchers and practitioners in any field that uses technology in any aspect of education. All papers included need to be of high quality, with representation from the international community (proposals for articles from one institution or region will not be considered). Special Sections have a minimum of six articles and also have a guest editorial of 750–1000 words published in the same issue.

There are two annual calls for proposals and we have scope to publish a total of four to six Special Sections per year. The agreed Special Sections from this call will be scheduled to publish in the latter half of the 2026 volume.

Proposals may cover any topic within the scope of BJET. See the BJET Editors’ most recent editorial for information about preferred and non-preferred kinds of articles to be submitted.

Please note we are interested in receiving proposals that are not on the research topics covered in our recently published and upcoming Special Sections. These are listed here

Please consider the diversity of both the proposed Editorial Team and the authors, for instance in regards to gender, ethnicity, geographical location and career stage. Ideally, editorial teams should span more than one institution or department. Submissions not demonstrating diversity will not be considered. Please note there are no word limits to a majority of the response boxes in the online form.

The deadline for proposals is Monday 31 March 2025, 23:59 PM GMT but we strongly encourage early submissions as they facilitate the reviewing process. Late applications, applications submitted via email, or applications that do not fully comply with these guidelines, cannot be accepted.

For any questions about the submission process, please contact bjeteditor@wiley.com and for any questions about the content of special section proposals, please contact Prof Manolis Mavrikis at m.mavrikis@ucl.ac.uk

If you submitted a form but do not receive a submission confirmation email from the Editorial Office by 4th April 2025, please contact bjeteditor@wiley.com to enquire.

To help you write your proposal prior to using the form, please download a copy of the proposal form questions.

Please note that Special Section proposals are only considered twice a year. Please submit proposals only once a call is published (normally one with a March deadline, and one with a September deadline), and proposals must comply with BJET’s specific requirements. The bi-annual calls are publicised on the BJET page of the BERA journals hub on Wiley Online Library and via social media.

The editors regret that any applications received outside of the bi-annual call for special sections time window, or sent via email, cannot be acknowledged or considered.
