Voting now open for BERA Council Elections 2021
We invite members to take part in the 2021 elections. We are electing the role of Conference & Events Chair and filling two further vacancies on BERA Council. Those chosen to serve on BERA Council act as Trustees for the organisation and, by casting a vote, you can elect the people you think have the skills, knowledge, experience and drive to help determine BERA’s strategic direction. When casting your vote, please consider the suitability of the individual for the role and not their personal accomplishments.
As part of our wider commitment to greater equality and diversity at all levels of the organisation, BERA Council has resolved that it should seek increased representation from members with a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background. In acknowledging the structural inequalities and unjust power imbalances that affect our members, we wish to be proactive in addressing this within our own structures. BERA recognises the benefits and advantages that diversity offers, including the potential for higher innovation and creativity, wider engagement and wellbeing, and the varied range of skills, talents and life experiences, all of which bring fresh perspectives to our work. BERA Council has also set the aspiration that at least 50% of Council and of the leadership roles within that (such as committee chairs) are women.
While members are encouraged to read all the candidates’ supporting statements and make judgements as to the particular experiences and attributes each candidate brings, we would encourage members to consider issues of gender and race equality when casting their vote.
In an effort to increase voter turnout, one BERA member will be selected at random and win a £50 Waterstones gift voucher!
Voting closes on March 1st 2021
