The BERA Post-compulsory and Lifelong Learning SIG has organised three seminars over this academic year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of BERA, focusing on Vocational Education and Training: Policy, Pedagogy and Research.
Following our first successful and thought provoking seminar in London our next seminar will be held at the University of Birmingham. Keynotes will be delivered from Professor Ann-Marie Bathmaker, University of Birmingham and Professor James Avis, University of Huddersfield, these will focus on knowledge in vocational education. Professor Patrick Ainley and Dr Martin Allen will focus on a new direction for vocational learning or another great training robbery? Initial research on the reinvention of apprenticeships at the start of the 21st century.

We look forward to welcoming colleagues to reflect on the past, present and future of this diverse and fast changing sector and engage in debate on how we may take forward research in this field. The seminars will be of interest to practitioners, leaders, researchers and policy makers.
Our final seminar on Wednesday 2 July will be held at the University of Durham where our keynote speakers will be Emeritus Professor Prue Huddleston, University of Warwick; Professor Karen Evans, Institute of Education, University of London; and Dr Roy Canning, University of Stirling.
