BELMAS and NGA: A New World of School Governance
On Friday 14 November 2014, BELMAS and the National Governors’ Association will host the joint conference
A New World of School Governance
The purpose of this conference is to place current developments in a wider perspective. How far are current developments in structures and practice appropriate in ensuring that the purpose of school governance is achieved? Who will hold governing boards to account? Indeed, what evidence do we have about what is occurring and what evidence do we need to enable current policy to be evaluated and future policy to be effectively grounded?
The day will comprise keynote addresses that explore these issues from a number of perspectives, a panel reflecting the views of key actors in the current governance scene and the opportunity for participants to challenge and refine their own views in discussion with each other and the speakers.
Speakers include:
Graham Stuart MP, Chair, House of Commons Select Committee on Education
Chris James, Professor of Educational Leadership and Management, University of Bath
Chris Caroe, Head of School Governance Unit, DfE
Emma Knights, Chief Executive, National Governors’ Association
