BERA currently runs a number of awards and bursaries in conjunction with the Annual Conference. There are various bursaries available to assist with attendance at the conference. BERA is keen to provide financial help to assist with their attendance at the conference. Keep checking as other opportunities may become available as early bird deadline approaches.

Travel Sustainability Bursary - Deadline 3 July 2023

BERA has already been considering its environmental impact running the conference each year. From 2016 we have been making a conscious effort to reduce our environmental impact. More information on our target for the 2023 conference is here. We understand that being more sustainable will sometimes cost you more.

This year we are pleased to launch this bursary to help cover costs for delegates to travel to the conference more sustainably. This is not to cover the full costs of your travel, but the additional expenses to travel more sustainably. Examples can include an extra night’s accommodation so travel by train or boat rather than flying. Applicants must have registered for the conference by the bursary deadline.

Access Bursary - Deadline 1 May 2023

Open to any UK based students, practitioners/teachers or independent researchers who has had their abstract selected for the BERA Annual Conference and have not received other BERA awards or bursaries. Applicants must be a BERA member.
Successful bursary applicants will be awarded 3 nights' accommodation (at the official conference hotel) and BERA will reimburse (pre-conference) standard class travel booked in advance (up to a total of £500). Applicants must have registered for the conference by the bursary deadline.

Winners will be notified by 10th May 2023.

Student Bursary - Deadline 27 February 2023

Successful bursary applicants will be awarded a complimentary place at the BERA Annual Conference including the conference social event. Full and part time students are eligible to apply. Students must have submitted an abstract for the conference, be a BERA Member.

Teacher/Practitioner/Independent Researchers Bursary - Deadline 27 February 2023

Successful bursary applicants will be awarded a complimentary place at the BERA Annual Conference. All applicants must have submitted an abstract for the conference, be a BERA Member.

International Bursary - Deadline 27 February 2023

Bursaries are available to individuals made up from the 84 countries classified as low income or lower-middle income as specified by the World Bank. Successful bursary applicants will be awarded a complimentary place at the BERA Annual Conference, 3 nights' accommodation (at the official conference hotel) and funds towards travel up to £1000.

International Collaboration Bursary - Deadline 27 February 2023

This bursary is designed to support innovative and outstanding collaborative educational research that teams a UK-based researcher with an international counterpart. The bursary supports the presentation of that research at the BERA Conference. Successful bursary applicants will be awarded a complimentary place at the BERA Annual Conference, 3 nights' accommodation (at the official conference hotel) and funds towards travel up to £1000, this is the to international applicant only.
