Professor Mhairi Beaton Announced as next BERA President

The British Educational Research Association (BERA) is delighted to announce that Professor Mhairi Beaton (Leeds Beckett University) has been elected as the next President of BERA. She will assume the role of Vice-President from 1st January 2026 before stepping into the Presidency on 1st January 2027 for a two-year term. Professor Beaton was elected unopposed, following a rigorous application review by senior members of BERA Council.

Professor Beaton is a distinguished educational researcher and is currently the Chair of BERA’s Conference & Events Committee (CEC). She brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and commitment to BERA’s mission of advancing educational research and supporting the academic community.

In reviewing her application, members of Council highlighted Professor Beaton’s deep understanding of both BERA and the wider educational research landscape.

Professor Beaton will play an important role in shaping BERA’s strategic direction.  As Vice-President she will work closely with BERA’s President Marlon Moncrieffe, Council, Chief Executive, and professional staff to guide the organisation’s next strategic plan, due for redevelopment in 2026. Her leadership will also be key as BERA contributes to the next Research Excellence Framework (REF) and navigates the evolving challenges and opportunities in educational research.

BERA congratulates Professor Mhairi Beaton on her appointment and looks forward to her leadership in the years ahead.
