Suzy Tutchell, Dr

Associate Professor at University of Reading

Dr Suzy Tutchell is an associate professor in art education at the Institute of Education, University of Reading. Having been an art subject leader for many years in a variety of London-based primary schools, she moved on to advisory work as a creativity and early years consultant and has been working in higher education for the past fifteen years. She currently leads the art specialism on the BA Primary Education programme and creativity pathway for the master’s in education and is school director for racial equity and justice at the Institute of Education, University of Reading. She is a practising artist whenever possible and continues to develop her own knowledge and identity as an artist-researcher-teacher. Suzy’s doctoral research was centred on student and trainee teacher identity in the art studio. She is currently involved in research around restorative art through textiles with a focus on children and families of forced migration. Her sole and co-authored publications include Young Children as Artists (Routledge, 2014), Mastering Primary Art and Design (Bloomsbury, 2020) and Teaching the Arts in the Primary Curriculum (Bloomsbury, 2021).
