Salma Alyami, Ms

University lecturer at Najran University and current PhD student at the University of Exeter at University of Exeter

I am a lecturer at Najran University, where I completed my master's degree, and am currently completing my PhD at the University of Exeter, sponsored by the University of Najran via the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in the United Kingdom.
My research interests include dyslexia, with a particular focus on its causes and support strategies. Given the current lack of understanding of the primary causes of dyslexia and the absence of a magic bullet, it is vital to provide assistance by implementing compensatory techniques to deal with the challenges associated with dyslexic students’ reading difficulties, specifically decoding text.
My research focuses on examining the impact of various modes of text presentation on text comprehension for students with dyslexia, using the cognitive load theory as a framework. The research extends to investigating text comprehension self-efficacy as a psychological aspect when providing support to students with dyslexia. Furthermore, as part of my PhD research, I examined students' views and experiences regarding the effects of modalities, recognizing that their feedback could yield valuable insights that extend beyond mere quantitative data. Subsequently, build a more comprehensive understanding of how to best support students with dyslexia.
Informing and influencing local policymaking in education through evidence-based research to support students with dyslexia will remain the primary goals of future research on compensatory approaches. Additionally, collaborating with researchers from several fields to gain a profound understanding of the causes of dyslexia, developing and providing effective support for students with dyslexia will be considered.
