Dr Matthew Milliken was a research assistant in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences at Ulster University, and is now an independent researcher. He is a former youth worker with a professional track record of developing innovative, award-winning educational approaches to support the building of relationships between divided communities in Ireland, the Caucasus, Southern Africa, the Basque region, Poland and Germany. His recent research focus has been on the factors that preserve educational segregation in Northern Ireland and he was key to developing the Transforming Education project; his work has attracted wide media coverage and contributed to recent legislative reform to include teachers under the protection of Fair Employment law.
