Christine Callender, Professor

Professor of Educational Equity and Social Justice at University College London

Christine is an academic, lecturer and researcher of race in teacher education. She has been an educator for over twenty years, initially working in schools before moving to Higher Education. She was also a Regional Director for the National Strategies working within the ITT team. Christine has held a number of roles, both subject specific and in leadership, including subject lead for English, Director of Initial Teacher Education, Inclusion Lead, Graduate Tutor and she is currently a departmental co-Head of Research at the IOE. Christine has been an External Examiner for and is a peer reviewer for a number of internationally recognised research journals. She is a former Associate Editor of the British Educational Research Journal. Christine is currently co-convenor of the BERA Race, Ethnicity and Education SIG and the BELMAS Race and Leadership RIG. Her expertise in the area of Equity and Diversity was recognised in a UKLA certificate of commendation for a lifetime’s work in inclusio
