Manjinder Jagdev has been a university teacher since 2006, working at the University of East Anglia and University of Sheffield as PGCE secondary lead mathematics tutor. She has contributed to PGCE secondary courses at St Mary’s, University of Cambridge and University of Manchester. Prior to her higher education career, Manjinder was a secondary school mathematics teacher for 10 years in multicultural city schools in Norwich and Bristol, including head of maths. Her research interests include anti-racism education. Every year, she teaches a session on the historical and cross-cultural roots of mathematics. Students work in groups to create a lesson plan and resources and provide reflections on celebrating diversity. In an online session, students discuss the issues of White privilege, unconscious bias and decolonising the curriculum. She is co-author of the chapter ‘Learning to teach mathematics in a multicultural society’ in the book Mentoring Mathematics Teachers: Supporting and Inspiring Pre-Service and Newly Qualified Teachers (R. Hyde, & J.-A. Edwards (Eds.), 2014, Routledge).
