I have had a varied career in education. After gaining my BA(Hons) in Literature and Psychology, I went on to gain my PGCE. During my career, I have taught all years within primary, from reception to year 6. I have worked as a SENCo and spent a year abroad as class teacher of a nursery (in a private multi-lingual school in Switzerland). Initially leading on core subjects, I have had a variety of leadership positions, culminating in Head of School within a MAT. I have always been interested in the power of research and many years ago, having read Carol Dweck’s work on growth mindset, I introduced the philosophy into the school with very successful results. The school achieved a good Ofsted inspection where the curriculum was praised and ,specifically, how it was adapted for different learning styles. Recently, I relocated from Essex to Norfolk and, for personal reasons, wanted to work part-time, so I looked for a new challenge. During my year in specialist provision, for children who have found themselves excluded from mainstream, I have reflected on how approaching the way we educate those who have experienced trauma or who fall under SEMH could better meet their needs.
