Mike Seal, Professor

Professor in youth and community education, professor in critical pedagogy and national officer at St. Marys University

Operating at the nexus of practice, theory and policy making, I have worked in the multiple disadvantage, homeless and youth and community work sectors and concurrently within higher education for over 35 years My overall aim is to develop an enhancing synthesized praxis across these fields. I am a participatory and co-productive researcher and foreground critical and queer pedagogy. I am currently exploring a re-imagining of the doctorate and the emancipating potential of the concept of pracademia. I publish where it has the greatest impact.

I have two primary roles. I am Director of the Centre for Research into the Education of Marginalised Children and Young Adults (CREMCYA) and Professor of Youth and Community Education at St Mary's University Twickenham. I am also Professor of Critical Pedagogy at Birmingham City University, attached to the Centre for the Study of Practice and Culture in Education (CSPACE).
