Join the British Educational Research Journal’s editorial board

BERA’s flagship peer-reviewed journal, a major focal point for the publication of original educational research from throughout the world, is refreshing the membership of its editorial board.

The editors of BERJ are seeking expressions of interest from academics who would like to join the editorial board, which will comprise both UK-based and international members. They aim to make the new board reflective of:

  • different traditions and perspectives from across the field of education
  • demographic factors (such as gender and ethnicity)
  • the six populated regions of the world.

Furthermore, the editors are seeking to appoint at least one early-career researcher (someone either in the process of completing their masters’ or doctorate in education or a related topic, or who has done so within the last five years).

International members will be prominent scholars in the field of education, whose international reputation will enhance the profile of the journal.

It is proposed that the new board will be effected from 1 July 2020.

Please send expressions of interest – including a CV and/or link to your professional profile, and a brief account of what you would bring to the role – to publications@bera.ac.uk by Monday, 13 April.

The proposed new structure of BERJ’s editorial board will be as follows.

  • The UK-based membership will reflect the positioning of the journal within the UK, and will comprise up to 12 members, including at least one early-career researcher
  • The international membership will comprise up to eight members, with one-to-two members each representing the six populated regions of the world.
  • An independent chair will be elected by the new board.

Members of the new board will be expected to support the journal by in a variety of ways, including but not limited to:

  • attending meetings (both remotely and in person)
  • reviewing articles
  • offering periodic advice to the editors (on, for example, proposals for special issues)
  • actively promoting the journal within their networks.
