Early Career Researcher Network – Regional Reps vacancy
Call for Regional Representatives – Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales & South West England
Regional Representatives
The BERA Early Career Researcher (ECR) Network aims to offer support to those who are in the process of completing their masters or doctorate in education, as well as those who have completed their studies within the past 5 years. It seeks to meet the needs of not only those who are pursuing studies and/or careers as researchers within Higher Education, but also those who are practitioners seeking to undertake research to support their development.

Regional Reps are vital to the work of BERA, and in particular the ECR Network. Regional Reps support the ECR Network in its activities and act as representatives for ECRs broadly, providing guidance to BERA on ECR-related matters. An important duty that the Regional Reps fulfil for the ECR Network is the coordination of its annual symposia series, with Reps organising events in their respective regions.
As a Regional Rep for the ECR Network, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and you will receive support from BERA in order to help you fulfil your duties. Regional Reps have the opportunity to organise and facilitate academic events – with support from the ECR Network’s convenors and the BERA Office – and, in doing so, to grow their academic networks. Reps are invited to attend meetings in London twice per year with the ECR Network’s convenors and BERA Office staff and through these help to shape the strategic priorities of the ECR Network moving forwards. BERA also provides subsidised attendance at their annual conference for Regional Reps to support their attendance.
Regional Reps should expect to work within all the guidelines and advice provided by the BERA Office. These are in place to ensure good practice and that all legal, financial and insurance matters are taken care of and that any risks to individuals or organisations are minimised. In particular, with regard to planning events, activities or any expenditure, Regional Reps should all follow the appropriate procedures – which will be provided on appointment.
If multiple expressions of interest are received an election may be run. We reserve the right to close the call early if enough suitable candidates come forward.
The deadline to apply is the 1st July 2022.
