Jonathan Doney, Dr
Senior Lecturer in Education Policy and History of Education at University of Exeter
Jonathan Doney is a lecturer in education policy and history of education at the University of Exeter. His post-doctoral work, funded by a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship, focuses on contemporary uses of historical insights in relation to educational policy formation and implementation. His work is methodologically innovative, setting out an operationalization of methods described in Foucault’s historical work, and has an international purview, considering how the insights from the main study inform histories of education policy in other national contexts, working closely with colleagues in Norway, Sweden and Germany. Jonathan has made methodological and analytical contributions to a number of projects including classroom based evaluations, assessment of the potential of virtual reality for vocational training, historical investigations and large scale quantitative analyses. Previously co-editor of History of Education Researcher, he is currently editor of ‘Sources and Interpretations’ in History of Education, and has a particular interest in supporting publication by early career researchers and the implications of open-access on educational publications. He also sits on the BERA Publications Committee.
