Alex Baratta, Dr

Reader and applied linguist at University of Manchester

Alex Baratta is a Reader and applied linguist at the Manchester Institute of Education (MIE) at the University of Manchester, UK. His research focuses on language and identity; linguistic prejudice; and linguistic equality. This has included projects focused on accentism in British teacher training, and more recently the need for recognition of World Englishes in educational contexts, such as Korean English and China English. Alex has appeared in media in more than a dozen countries, including more than 100 TV and radio interviews/print media, has worked as a consultant for linguistic-based projects (including a project on the use of AI in advertisements, for the California company Five9), and his publications have been used for examinations in both Australia and the UK.
