CALL FOR PROPOSALS

This exciting joint conference (with the University of Worcester and the BERA Comparative and International Education SIG)  entitled ‘Global Perspectives in Teacher Education’ will focus on a number of important themes related to the impact of globalisation and internationalisation on sustainable teacher education.

The conference will consider ideas such as inclusion, sharing knowledge across the globe, curriculum and its impact on knowledge generation, globalising teacher education, developing evidence-informed practice and self-improving systems, diversity, global citizenship, and intercultural education. This conference takes forward some of the issues explored during last year’s conference entitled ‘Bridging the Global Educational Gap’, where we continued to look at UNESCO Education 2030: A Framework for Action and Education in a Global Context. This year’s conference will consider concrete solutions which support the UNESCO Education 2030 goals with the aim of allowing partnerships, networks and collaborations to be developed that will take forward some purposeful and real projects to sup-port the development and vision of high-quality sustainable teacher education across the world.

The conference is aimed at researchers, academics, consultants, practitioners, teachers, research students and professionals working in fields such as international, intercultural and comparative education, curriculum development, education policy and practice. It will be a wonderful opportunity to make connections with others in your field and to support strong research -informed practice.

Proposals
Proposals are welcomed in the following formats:

•  Paper presentations;
•  Workshop/discussion leaders;
•  Panel discussion/Q&A;
•  Poster presentations

We are inviting proposals which address questions of ‘how do we embed high-quality teacher education in a global context’ in relation to, for example, curriculum development, policy and practice; development of higher education; global citizen-ship; intercultural education and internationalisation of education. Furthermore any research or practice-based work being carried out that will allow for a framework to be developed to support teacher education in underserved areas would be very welcome. We look forward to proposals which engage with the interconnections and synergies between these different areas and which also challenge us on ways in which we can contribute to positive change

Keynote Lecture: 

Mikael Arevius 

Mikael Arevius is a lecturer, educator and a producer of teaching materials. He has worked in the Swedish educational sector as teacher, curriculum manager and developer of teaching materials. Today, he works at Gapminder focusing his work on developing an understanding on how we create a worldview and learning practice that enables a better understanding of the world we live in. 

Olof Gränström 

Olof Gränström is an educator and business economist with a background in political science. He has worked in the Swedish educational sector the last ten years as a teacher, lecturer and organisational developer. At Gapminder he works on developing a better understanding for the misconceptions about global development and ways to fight global ignorance. His motivation has always been to give people a better understanding of our global community and the need for sustainable development. 

Sir Christopher Stone 

Sir Chris received a knighthood in 2013, in recognition of his outstanding service to education. He joined GEMS Education as the Chief Education Officer – (MENASA) and Deputy Chief Academic Officer for the GEMS Global Academic Council in November 2015.  

He was made a National Leader of Education by NCSL in 2008. In 2012 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Birmingham City University for his work in Educational leadership and for driving up educational standards in the region and will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Liverpool Hope University in the summer of 2018. 

Sir Chris has provided leadership, guidance and training for principals and ministers in Vietnam, Singapore, Australia, Finland and Scotland on behalf of the British Council. He has been asked to provide support and guidance to successive UK governments, bringing him into regular contact with several British Prime Ministers.
